These earrings scream “let’s day drink on the patio.” 🙂  I certainly don’t shy away from a bold pair of earrings as you can see here. I’ve seen a lot of lightweight tassel earrings and pompoms on accessories lately, so I wanted to embrace this trend just in time for spring!  I will be packing these for my much-needed beach vacation in a a few weeks. Just need that house to be done…

Sometimes statement earrings are hard on the ears, but these aren’t heavy at all like other beaded earrings. I love that they have a mix of a neutral grey color to balance out the bright pom poms. I will definitely pair these earrings with an airy white dress or maxi once we officially switch seasons.

There’s a ton more where these came from at Elaine Turner. They have SO many bright resort pieces right now and a whole selection of these vivid earrings made by Peruvian jewelry designer Alejandra Aspillaga.

Elaine Turner is hosting a spring trunk show at three of its locations in Houston over the new next few days, so you can get your hands on some of these beauties.

Houston friends: definitely stop by to see all the different styles! There are a ton of colorful options that are so, so perfect for spring and summer.

Thursday, March 2 / Elaine Turner BLVD Place, 5-8 p.m.

Friday, March 3 / Elaine Turner Rice Village, 12- 3 p.m.

Saturday, March 4 / Elaine Turner CityCentre 11-3 p.m.

Lastly, in case you didn’t know, there is a MAJOR Shopbop sale going on right now.  The ‘Buy More, Save More’ event is the perfect opportunity to stock up on warm weather clothing! Use the code GOBIG17 through March 4 to take advantage of the savings.

Black lace-up shirt with a pop of green

November 14, 2016

Black lace up shirtblack-shirt-6

black-shirt-2  black-shirt-3 black-shirt-4 I’ve been all about the flowy tops that are non-maternity because I’m sporting what looks more like a large food baby than a real baby. I bought this black lace-up tunic a few weeks ago, and I’ve been wearing it a ton. Wearing all black is not something I do a lot, but when I do, I love including a pop of color with shoes or accessories. These hunter green shoes are fun and comfy since they have more of a chunky heel.  I’ve also pulled out my J.Crew pixie pants, which are  like leggings but better because they’re thicker and more structured. Because they have great stretch, I can still wear these non-maternity pants for awhile. They’re also excellent travel pants because they’re comfy and take up very little room in a suitcase. I have them in 3 colors and bought them a few years ago and I still wear them a lot. They’re still something J.crew offers year after year probably because they’re so amazingly comfortable and timeless. I wear them a ton in the fall and winter with sweaters and cardigans, and pair them with heels, booties, flat riding boots — the list can really go on.

I  love the lace-up detail on this shirt, and I’ve picked up a couple of other tops with similar detail. It’s not available anymore (sadly since it’s great quality and was a steal at $65), but I’ve linked to some very similar options including this one, which I have in a cream color and actually wore today. Hi,  Houston fall weather!

We have been spending time outdoors since the weather has been pretty amazing, and we stumbled across this mural near the Lawndale Art Center when we were in the museum district this weekend. I love the Houston Mural Guide. It’s such a fun way to capture all the great spaces in the city and can’t wait to visit more! Braden loved the googly eyes.black-shirt-1-2(This is what happens when you say, “Smile, show me your teeth!”)

A quick pregnancy update at 19 weeks: eating has become my second job. I don’t recall being this ravenous in my first pregnancy, and I haven’t gained much weight. This may sound annoying, but it’s almost time-consuming to have to pause what I’m doing to eat 4 snacks at work in addition to 2 breakfasts and pretty much dinner and a bedtime snack. The sheer volume of food I consume is pretty surprising actually but I’m trying to be somewhat smart about it. I sure do love peanut butter toast, though. (I’ve already passed down this addiction to Braden. Whoops.) I’m definitely more tired this go-round too but I think that has to do with having a toddler. But, as my husband says, ” If you go to bed at 9pm it’s like sleeping in but in reverse.” So, I’ve been a grandma and going to bed around 9-9:30pm most nights.

I don’t love most maternity clothes, but very open to suggestions, so send them my way if you have them! I still gravitate to more versatile non-maternity pieces like this black lace-up top that can be worn post-pregnancy.

Top: Wayf version in black sold out but I’ve linked to the striped option available here and black options here and here | Pants | Shoes | Marc Jacobs Handbag (Old)

National Pumpkin Day + Pumpkin Patch Pics

pumpkin-patch-27Well, I’m finally getting around to sharing our pumpkin patch pictures  we took over 3 weeks ago. I guess it kind of works out because today is National Pumpkin Day. Who doesn’t love a good made-up food holiday?! This month has been a doozy. With a wedding and/or out of town travel nearly every weekend, plus getting the sinus infection from hell that has lasted 2+ weeks, I’ve been a walking zombie. And, you pretty much can’t take any good meds when you’re pregnant. I finally got on antibiotics yesterday so I’m hopeful I’ll feel like a human again.

We visited Blessington Farms the first weekend in Oct. It’s open through the end of the month, so there’s still a chance to go if you’re around the Houston area. There are a ton of games for kids and plenty of picture opportunities. It definitely wore us all out. It was still pretty hot when we went, but I’m sure it will be nice the next few days.

Braden loved it, and we used it as an opportunity to take some pics announcing our family update. On that front, I am 16 weeks pregnant, so sort of in that beer gut stage. With my food aversions and intermittent nausea I lost weight in the first trimester, which happened to me with B, too. I’m trying to eat more, but with the sinus infection, I’ve had so much pain and pressure in my face, I haven’t wanted to eat much because it hurt to chew for awhile. I actually thought I had a cavity and went to the dentist last week. Nope, my sinuses are just so inflamed that my top teeth feel like they’re falling out because the roots of my teeth are pressing against my sinus cavity. Fun times, y’all.

Fall is my favorite season, and I’m looking forward to actually enjoying it a little more once I get better. Hopefully, in a few days I’ll feel like new!

Family Update

October 7, 2016
Blessington Farms petting zoo

pumpkin-patch-25I’m excited to share that we’re adding one more little pumpkin to our patch! Braden is just the best thing that ever happened to us, so why not add one more to the mix? We’ll welcome another mini-me next spring. We took these pics at Blessington Farms last weekend. It’s our second time visiting this place, and I would highly recommend it for those who live in the Houston area.

We’re in small town outside of Fort Worth this weekend visiting with family and the internet is a little spotty, so uploading pics is not going so well today. So, I’ll be back early next week with a recap on Blessington Farms and more on the family front!

More soon,

Off the shoulder + a pop of red

July 12, 2016

We’ve been trying to make an effort to go on more date nights lately because…well, a toddler will do that to you. 🙂 I wore this outfit on Saturday to dinner and an engagement party. I bought this off the shoulder dress when I was in Cancun last month. Shopping in a different country is the best, especially when the exchange rate makes the dress an even better deal. This dress was a steal at  $49, and it’s one of the most comfortable summer dresses I now own.

I didn’t see it at Zara in the U.S., so I’ve linked to similar Zara options here and here. I plan to embrace the off the shoulder trend the next couple of months since you’ll pretty much melt if you go outside lately. So, I’ll be wearing this dress and this one, too, until about November. 😉

Off the shoulder dress with a pop of red for date night

We decided to make the most out our night out  and hit up a restaurant in the neighborhood called Coltivare. I’ve been wanting to try this place since it opened, but we’ve never got around to it because they don’t take reservations, and I don’t like going places and waiting.  I use my Opentable app like a crazy lady and pre-book places and just cancel a few days prior if I know I won’t make it.  I decided to stray away from my reservations-only rule and try this Italian spot, which I’ve only heard good things about. I’ve been told you need to arrive early and the typical wait time is an hour. We arrived at 6pm – our typical, toddler-enforced eating time, and we were told the wait was, in fact, an hour. Eek. Instead of grabbing a drink in the courtyard and melting waiting in the lovely Houston humidity, we went right down the street to Gelazzi, a fabulous gelato shop that has this great mural to snap a few photos. We’ve taken many a photos in front of this wall, even some that made our first Christmas card with Braden. I love the Heights, and I’m a little sad to be moving away from this great neighborhood filled with some of the city’s best restaurants and photoworthy locales, BUT we’re basically moving to the next neighborhood over, so I know we’ll still be going to a lot of these places. I’ve just really enjoyed the convenience of throwing a bottle of wine in the stroller and walking to BYOB restaurants or trying out the row of great eateries such as Bernadine’s, Hunky Dory and Cane Russo, which are all  a five minute walk from our house.

The one hour wait for Coltivare was actually about 25 minutes. Score! I think an hour wait would have been worth it, though. The pizza was AMAZING, and I had the BEST heirloom tomato salad ever. Everything is super fresh and made with herbs and veggies from their garden. Ben doesn’t even like tomatoes that much but he liked this salad. It was beautiful and flavorful. We also had some chicken wings that were super spicy yet tasty, but also a little messy. I let Ben choose the pizza (pepperoni, so adventurous) and appetizer since pizza is like his life blood. We had some yummy cocktails, too, including their version of the Gin and Tonic, which was minty and refreshing. I will definitely go back again soon.  I highly recommend it if you’re in the area!

So, with my perfect pizza-eating dress ( I love a roomy dress after carb-filled meal), I paired it with some of my favorite summer heels for a nice pop of color. I picked these shoes up from Ann Taylor online recently. I buy about 95% of my shoes online because no one ever has my size. #Tallgirlwithbigfeetproblems  I have a lot of Ann Taylor shoes — almost more than I care to admit — but they’re really well-made and have great heel heights. The shoes are “fire glow orange” but they look more red to me and punch up neutrals quite nicely. This J.Crew clutch is a few years old but still use it during the summer months.

Hope your week has started off great, y’all!
